I have been really struggling with potty training Nora. She seems completely uninterested. People keep saying to wait until she is ready and that I will know when she is ready, but I'm having a hard time with this because I feel like she should be ready. Every time you ask her if she needs to go to the potty, she says "no thanks." She does the same thing at school. So I haven't really tried very hard with her.
Until today.
The beginning of "No Pants Weekend."
I decided that since I had all weekend off, and nothing in particular that I needed to do, we would do a no pants weekend for Nora. I started this morning by taking off her Pull-Up and pajamas and just putting her in a t-shirt. I think she thought it would be fun.
We started by setting the alarm on my phone for 30 minutes. She got to push start and she got to stop it when the timer went off. She liked that. We would sit on the potty and she would try to go pee pee. She would strain and she would fart and then she would be ready to get off. A friend at work told me to have her blow out of her mouth because that will help her to use the muscles that you use to go pee. We tried. No pee in the potty.
But no accident either, so we were getting started. We Skyped with Grandpa Dave and Renee and they got a bit of a peep show that I don't think they were expecting this morning! It was pretty entertaining though for everyone! Nora was rolling around and doing what looked like yoga positions...all without her knickers!
Logan and Amelia came over to play around lunch time and Nora still hadn't peed, in the potty or on the floor. Then Mimi and I were in my closet looking at something and when we came out I didn't see Nora so I called for her. She was in her bathroom on the toilet going potty! All by herself!!
We cheered so loudly for her and she was so proud!
She wanted to call Daddy at work to tell him, but I just had her record a video for him instead. Took her a few seconds to realize that we weren't on Facetime, but then she told him what she did!
Then we stopped with the timer and I just would ask her periodically if she needed to go pee. She kept saying no. We tried to potty before her bath and she didn't go and so I assumed she had peed in the bath. But when we sat down to dinner she let loose and she CRIED and CRIED! She was so upset!
It was progress though! We'll try again tomorrow.
