Ever since we moved to Austin, Shawn and I have a yearly tradition. We go to Dallas once a year when the Blackhawks are in town for a game against the Dallas Stars. We didn't go the year I was pregnant, but we've gone every other year and last year we took Nora for her first NHL experience. When we checked to see when the game would be it turned out to be during Spring Break week (convenient for me, since I'm extremely busy this semester) and also on my mom's 60th Birthday. So Shawn decided to take the week off and I took off the end of the week and we took a mini-vacation to Dallas/Fort Worth for 3 days.
We went to Fort Worth first because I had heard that their zoo was better than the one in Dallas. It was quite an adventure packing and loading the car....I thought it would be easier than the last time we traveled with Nora. Not really.
So. Much. Stuff.
Of course we had to stop at Starbucks on the way, so Nora got a really cute butterfly cookie. As she would say while she pointed at the cookie, "he wants! nummy!"
Nora enjoyed the hotel when the got to Fort Worth. Hotels are a new experience for her so we weren't sure how she was gonna do. She didn't sleep well (so we didn't sleep well) but we survived. She enjoyed the hotel pool...although we definitely realized that the progress we made at the pool last summer is gone. We need to get her back into the pool more often soon!
She though the phone was quite fun. She keep grabbing it, going to the closet and saying, "Hello...Are you there?"
The weather was not ideal for the zoo, but we went anyway. We were able to see most of the stuff we wanted to and Nora had a great time!
She LOVED the monkeys! If you ask her today about the zoo, "monkeys" is all she will say!
She really loved this bird area too...the birds just fly all around you and you can feed them. She loved it! We knew that Amelia would have loved it too, but there is no way Mimi would have walked into this area with birds all around. So we'll just have to all go together next time so Shawn and I can take the girls in while Mimi and Logan wait outside!
They had a nice little indoor play area for kids that is educational about farm animals and what they are used for. Like what the animals are really used for...meaning that there is a cow and a pig on the wall and when you open little compartments there is a hamburger and bacon. Very realistic.
We ended our rainy zoo adventure with a train ride and rock candy.
She had such a great time she wouldn't nap...until 4pm.
The next day we went to the Children's Aquarium at the Dallas Fairgrounds. It is designed for kids, so there wasn't much to it, but Nora really enjoyed it.
Her phrase of the day, "Hey. Mama Come on!"
We found 2 gold dabloons! (Well, we really bought them, but she doesn't know that!)
From the second we walked in she was looking for Nemo.
We found the Tic Toc Croc too :)
Since it was Weeta's birthday, Nora made this cute little video for her.
That evening we went to the Blackhawks game! They didn't win, and they shouldn't have. They played like crap! But we had fun, met some really nice people (like we always do at these games) and Nora made a ton of friends! Nora had a really great time! She loved the music and all the people. She was dancing and totally making all the people around us fall in love with her. We'll be taking her back next year for sure!
Our seats were right by the entryway to our section, and since they won't let you come in during a play, there were always people standing here. Nora made a lot of friends!
She also quite enjoyed the puck we bought her!
I can't wait until next years trip to Dallas...although we're hoping to take her to a game in Chicago at the United Center in October maybe. We'll see...
