Ok...we've finally made it to the last bit of our trip. We really loved taking Nora for her first visit to our favorite city, Chicago!! We picked up Bryce when we were driving into Chicago and then had a cookout at my Aunt Mel & Uncle Glenn's house. It was so great for Nora to get to meet her family! My cousins and their kids were all fighting over her :) Nora had a great time!! How nice it is to be so loved! We didn't get any pictures from the cookout, but other people did so I'll include a couple of the pics I stole from facebook.
Nora completely passed out in my cousin Cristie's arms and even stayed asleep through several hand offs! She was playing so much she was exhausted!! All my cousins and their kids were having so much fun with her.
Nora wasn't afraid of Uncle Glenn at all...which is not usual! However, her mommy was never afraid of him either so I guess that just shows that she's going to be tough and strong like me :) My cousin Kathy's daughter Shaylee was not happy that people were holding and playing with Nora. She did not like having to share her Papa or her mom with this strange new baby.
We had a great time hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa over the few days we were visiting. We had to go out for breakfast, of course! It was delicious too.
On Monday we decided to head downtown so Nora would see the sights. We took the train so she could experience the "el". I had her in the Ergo carrier most of the time but we took the stroller as well. She wasn't afraid at all...she loved it!
We found a pretty cool sculpture garden that didn't used to be there. Bryce and Shawn had too much fun with it :)
Nora woke up and was ready for her Millennium Park adventure in her stroller. Let's go find The Bean!
We had lunch at Giordano's...only because we were hungry and it was the closest thing. We had planned to eat Lou Malnati's for dinner but we caved and ate at Giordano's instead. MISTAKE! Shawn even wrote his own blog about why Lou's is better...and it is indeed. SO DELICIOUS! If you ever want to eat the best Chicago deep dish pizza, eat at Lou's! You can order it too and it'll ship frozen to your door. Not quite as good at eating it in their restaurants, but close, and still better than anything you can get in Austin (or wherever you are!)
On the way back, we hopped off the train at Addison to experience Wrigleyville. We were going to go to the game, but Nora had been sleeping so bad and it was a night game, so we decided not to. I will probably regret not taking her to her first Cubs game while we were there, but at the time I think it was the right move. She was asleep when we got there, but we still had to get our picture!
As always, my happy girl enjoying the train ride again, this time in her stroller.
She had to have some playtime with Bryce before we took him back home. She kept giving him funny looks, like, "who are you and why are you following us?" By the end of the day though, they were fast friends!
It was a long trip with lots of driving but we made it without any major catastrophes! We got to visit with lots of people that we love and miss so so much...although we didn't get to see everyone :( It'll probably be awhile before we make a trip like this again, but everyone is always welcome to crash out house in Austin. We have an extra room just for that!
Nora misses you all already!
