We've made it to almost 36 weeks now...the last month. Wow!
My weekly prenatal visit went well. I checked my blood glucose all week and there was only 1 that was out of range...and it was after a very high carb meal. So basically, the suggestion is for me to go back on the low carb/high protein diet until the baby comes and continue to monitor my blood glucose just to see if it helps slow her growth at all. The ultrasound this week didn't measure her growth (they can only do that every 2-3 weeks) but it did show that my amniotic fluid level went up A LOT. Not sure why, but really officially polyhydramnios now. Apparently my Nora has her own lake right now, not a pond or a pool, but a lake. It really made me start thinking about something I had not really considered yet...
What happens if my water breaks in bed??
Or in the car?
Or in public....Yikes!!
This will be a HUGE mess. I can't believe I never thought of this until now, but I guess better now than after my water breaks, right? Time to start buying the waterproof sheets and mattress protector! Trash bags to cover my car seat?? Will that work? Suggestions anyone??
Anyway, I did talk to the midwife about what the delivery plan will be if her growth continues as it has been. She did say that I do have the option to choose a Cesarean Section because of her size. I do not want to choose that. The other option we have currently is to induce at 39 weeks. Depending on what happens in the next few weekly appointments that could change to a 38 week induction, but we'll stick with 39 weeks for now because besides the LGA (Large for Gestational Age) baby and the polyhydramnios, I don't have any other complications currently. So looks like she will be coming in 2-3 weeks. Yikes! My midwife gave me some information on cervical ripening to help get me ready for induction...it's getting real now!
I have said from the beginning of this pregnancy that we worked too hard for this for me to complain about anything. Luckily, I have had a very uneventful pregnancy. Almost nothing to complain about. Heartburn throughout, but manageable. A bit of sickness in the first trimester...not bad at all though. Started with a bit of ankle swelling on work days early in my third trimester. Nothing bad at all....
Then comes 35 weeks...
Oh wow! I think it has really hit me now. I am not complaining, but just saying that I am really feeling pregnant now! Maybe it's because my belly is huge (already measuring at 40 weeks) and my ankle swelling is all the time (but still no swelling anywhere else). Maybe its because she's so big she's constantly pressing on my bladder and my lungs, making my bathroom breaks almost hourly sometimes and making me short of breath just from walking from my bed to the bathroom at night! After only 1-2 hours of errands I am about to collapse, and because of this extreme exhaustion, my plan to work until the end is not sounding so good anymore! My sciatic nerve is bothering me a lot, which makes me walk at turtle pace. People at work are commenting the significant decrease in my pace, as well as my waddle. Days I work I am completely ready for a nap by 1pm...that's only halfway done!! I am sweating all the time (and for those of you that know how I sweat normally, this is significantly worse)!
I have decided that there is no such thing as pregnancy glow, it's just sweat.
OK. Done complaining. Can you tell I am ready for this baby to be here?? But, the NICU nurse in me wants to wait until she's 38 weeks at least so her lungs are ready. Just because she's big doesn't necessarily mean she's ready developmentally or physically. By 38 weeks though...I'll be ready no matter what!
I did trashbags on my bed. lol My water broke with both Luke and Addie. With Luke it wasn't fully ruptured, just a slow leak but with Addie it was gushing. Thankfully I was at home both times but the drive to the hospital for Addie was interesting. We threw down a trash bag on the seat which helped some but, yeah, it can be a bit ridiculous. How exciting that she's almost here! :)
